Autumn is finally upon us, which means that it is a time for the beautiful fall of brown and red leaves, and an end to the incredible weather we have had over the summer, being instead replaced by heavy rainfall and occasional snow.
Here are some top tips for getting ready for winter.
Sweep Away The Surface
Flat roofs have a slight gradient to channel water away, but this can sometimes be disrupted by leaves and other debris that have fallen on your roof. This creates pools of standing water which not only encourage the growth of mould, algae and moss but also can weigh down your roof slightly.
Get in the habit of sweeping regularly, especially during winter, and especially after windy or rainy days.
Check Your Gutters
Guttering is an integral part of any roof, but with flat roofs, an incorrectly installed or poorly functioning gutter can cause a lot of extra damage.
Check the pipes and gutters to ensure that nothing is clogged or broken, and order parts now before winter starts to bite.
Don’t Ignore The Small Stuff
Leaks are bad in themselves, but what makes them worse is that a small leak can grow very quickly.
Check your roof surface and consider repairing or replacing any parts that appear to be damaged.
