During the winter months, most people want to stay indoors and enjoy being in a warm, comfortable home. However, it is certainly worth wrapping up and heading outdoors to look after your flat roof, otherwise you might have to deal with a lot of problems of deterioration and repair come spring.
Remove leaves
Something you should definitely keep on top of is the removal of leaves and other debris. Strong winds can lead to twigs, leaves, small branches, and dirt being deposited on the roof, which can result in pools of water. This could cause the roof to become waterlogged and leak if the debris is not cleared up.
You can simply use a tall sweeping brush but be careful not to apply too much pressure, as you could end up damaging the roof.
Keep drains clear
At the same time, check the drains are clear so that rainwater is not blocked from running down from the roof. Otherwise, this can also cause water pooling and a problematic leaky roof.
If there is a build-up of debris in the drains, you could remove it and use high-pressure water to spray it clear.
Keep check after bad weather
If there is an incidence of bad weather, such as strong gales or heavy rain, it is a good idea to have a look at the roof to see if any damage has been caused. It is important to get these sorted as soon as possible to avoid any further deterioration.
