Get Your Gutters Cleaned For Springtime

Daniel Bracewell • 31 March 2024

After a long winter, most people are ready for some sunshine and to enjoy being outside in their garden. However, it’s hard to do this when faced with the constant mess of dead leaves and branches.

That is why it is essential to call flat roof specialists in to clean your gutters and remove all the winter debris, so you can sit in your garden and truly be able to relax.

Over the winter months, fallen leaves, twigs, acorns and pinecones accumulate in the gutters, particularly when there are strong winds blowing them off the trees.

As more and more land, they get harder to shift, which also means the risk of causing water damage to your roof and inside the house increases. This is because the blockage means that rainwater cannot flow through the gutter and away from the roof, leaving it to form pools.

These collections of water can result in damp patches, jeopardising the integrity of the roof. If left for a long time, they could also permeate through the ceiling and cause damp spots on the inside of the extension.

Spring is a great time to sort out your gutters, as they can be cleared and any pooled water can drain away.

The weather is also most likely to be better than during the winter months, which makes it an easy job to complete, and there is little chance it will have to be done again in a few weeks’ time, unlike if the gutters were cleared midway through winter.

It is also a good opportunity to see if any repairs need doing to the gutter, so these can be arranged before the colder months hit again.
