During the summer months, your conservatory will have come into its own, especially during the lockdown, as they can help bring homeowners closer to nature, and a space filled with light to be able to sit and relax.
But during the winter, the conservatory can become bitterly cold and can be a neglected space in the home. Now that surges of the omicron variant of the coronavirus mean we have all been asked to work from home again, we look at how you can make sure your conservatory is warm and comfortable, whether it becomes your home office, or a sanctuary away from everything.
1. Double gazing
Glass is not a very good insulator, and cannot keep the space as warm as you would like, but getting double glazing installed, or repairing your current glazing can help retain heat in the conservatory.
Replacing all of the glass in your conservatory is likely to be quite expensive, but if you have an older conservatory or extension it may be wise to investigate the cost of upgrading, particularly if you enjoy spending time in there.
2. Reduce draughts
Draughts can be very annoying and can spoil our enjoyment of the conservatory. It is important to ensure that all doors and windows have adequate draught-proofing to help maintain a comfortable temperature.
3. Insulate the roof
If your conservatory is rather old, it will likely have a polycarbonate roof that provides little insulation and can be a major contributor to the chilly temperatures in the space. Replacing your existing conservatory roof with a new, insulated, flat roof might not be the cheapest option, but it extends the longevity of your conservatory and is worth the time and effort.
