The UK is set to be hit by thunderstorms and heavy rain, which could lead to problems of roof ponding.
A yellow alert for thunderstorms, rain and the risk of flooding has been announced by the Met Office for the next few days.
Areas that are anticipated to be most affected include Northern Ireland, and much of Scotland.
This comes as storms and
flash flooding hit many areas of England over the weekend, disrupting play at Wimbledon and the Ashes, and forcing a music festival in Birmingham to cancel.
Attendees at The Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival were forced to head home as the event was called off following torrential rain.
Organisers of the festival told the
BBC: “We’re absolutely devastated that this evening’s weather took such a biblical turn.”
The extreme weather is not just likely to disrupt people’s weekend plans, but could have an impact on their property too.
For instance, those with flat roofs could suffer from
roof ponding, which is what occurs when water collects in puddles.
Following a downpour, if there is a low spot in the roof, water might not be able to drain away, resulting in it pooling. After a while, this can leave the area damp and full of dirt.
For instance, algae can begin to grow on the surface, which can further deteriorate the roof’s surface.
What’s more, although the weather is warm at the moment, problems can arise during the wintertime. Thanks to freezing and thawing, ponded water can cause significant damage to the roof.
To make sure you don’t suffer from this problem, contact our
flat roof specialists to install a good-quality, well installed structure, which allows water to flow away into gutters.
